Protecting Florida's Nature

broken image

Florida's nature is in danger. It needs us.

Florida is a large state. It is home to rough and tough residents. We survive hurricanes, floods, mosquitos, and everthing else we must deal with to live in paradise.

Many of us love this state, and everything it has to offer. Many of us love its environment. Sadly, though, not all of us are willing to protect it.

Florida has the largest concentration of freshwater springs in the entire world. But, it's fragile. Florida's nature is sensitive, and will not withstand our constant neglect or abuse. Just the Florida aquifer itself is irreplacable, yet we, as residents of Florida, refuse to protect or safeguard it.

We will surely look back on Florida's nature with reminiscent, tearful eyes when it's gone.

If you live in Florida, you should vote to protect your homeland.

Vote to protect our waterways, and our nature.

Vote to ensure our priceless environment is healthy and alive for future generations.

It is up to us. If we don't save it, nobody else will.

Florida's natural ecosystem is more fragile than most realize. How many of Florida's residents stop to consider the environmental impact their car wash may cause? Or, the soapy suds flowing down a storm drain, and straight into a natural waterway?

How many people consider the fragile hydrogeology that we depend on for survival? How many people consider the seeds and invasive species we accidentally introduce through carelessness and ignorance? Not many, I'm afraid.

Ironically, we must also safeguard our nature from the most well-intentioned among us.

It is often the good-hearted, but ignorant masses who go for a hike, and trample natural shorelines into lifeless mud, and damage our beautiful living ecosystems. We must all be vigilant. If we're not careful we may hug our nature to death. Every time you go out and enjoy your natural environment, take care to leave no trace.

If you're reading this, I commend you. It means you're part of the solution, not the problem.

Please do everything you can to help protect Florida, the place we love! Please help us protect our nature. Help us protect our springs, forests, oceans, beaches, coral reefs, prairies, trails and other sensitive ecosystems from the constant threat of damage, and development.

Support progressive, thoughtful leaders and organizations who represent our interests. Don't support leaders who sell out to bottled water companies, or industrial farming lobbyists.

Help us look for new, innovative solutions that provide a win-win for everybody, including our children and future generations.
